In a bold move, former MotoGP race winner Miguel Oliveira is set to bring his unique skills and insights to the World Superbikes arena in 2026. But here's where it gets intriguing: his approach, as described by BMW World Superbike team boss Shaun Muir, is a game-changer.
"Miguel is an introspective rider, a deep thinker," Muir revealed to Speedweek. "He analyzes every aspect before speaking, ensuring his feedback is well-considered. It's a quality we value highly."
After seven successful seasons in MotoGP, yielding an impressive five grand prix victories, Oliveira is now embarking on a new chapter with BMW. And this is the part most people miss: his ability to adapt and learn quickly.
"It's still early days, but Miguel's thoughtful approach is already making an impact," Muir continued. "He knows precisely what he wants from the bike, and that's a huge advantage for us."
With a wealth of experience riding KTM, Aprilia, and Yamaha bikes during his MotoGP career, Oliveira brings a diverse skill set to the table. However, World Superbikes presents a unique challenge with different brakes, electronics, and Pirelli tires.
But Oliveira is up for the task. According to Muir, "Miguel is impressed with our package, particularly the electronics. He's also intrigued by the engine brake and is eager to explore the hard braking techniques that three-time World Superbike champion Toprak Razgatlioglu has mastered."
And Oliveira isn't alone in this MotoGP-to-World Superbikes transition. LCR Honda rookie Somkiat Chantra will join HRC's factory squad, partnering with Moto2 race winner Jake Dixon. Together, they represent a new wave of talent bringing fresh perspectives to the sport.
