Bold statement: Five talented Schoharie students are making big waves by earning spots in this year’s ESYO Melodies Chorale, signaling both local excellence and a growing love for choral music. But here’s where it gets controversial: does regional audition depth truly reflect future stars, or do limited opportunities and regional biases shape who gets to shine? Let’s unpack what’s happening and why it matters.

The ESYO Melodies Chorale teams up with the Empire State Youth Orchestra to present Melodies of Christmas at Proctors. Applicants from across the Capital Region auditioned to take part, and the chosen students have been guided by Dr. Michael Lister to rehearse the Christmas selections featured in the show. Performances at Proctors are scheduled for December 18–21. Tickets can be purchased via the Proctors website.
This longstanding CBS 6 Melodies of Christmas tradition has illuminated the holiday season for more than forty years, while also supporting the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders. To date, the fundraiser has raised almost $10 million for the Melodies Center. Congratulations again to our students on this remarkable achievement."
